Before starting blade smithing, I worked as a mechanic for 13 years, rebuilding engines and performing general repairs. I also was a co-owner of a welding shop for 7 years, building everything from small ATV trailers to office trailers for the oilfield.

Woodworking has always been a passion of mine. For a few years, Kim and I created rustic furniture from Pine and Diamond Willow.

In 2010 I found out that I had MS, which was starting to affect my left leg and right hand. The size of the projects I could take on had to be scaled down significantly, as I could not physically do what I wanted.

When I discovered blade smithing, it satisfied all my interests from metalworking and welding to woodworking, so it was a good fit for my change in health.
